Clothing Tips:

TIP: for care, I tend to wash my pickleball outfits on delicate and hang dry so they last longer and stay looking good. I don’t iron my skorts.

TIP: I love to enhance my tanks with special features – check out this video.

TIP: I wear a sweatband under my visor and position it under my pony tail. Then the closure for the velcro is on the sweatband and not directly on my hair.

TIP: If the headband does not have matching wristbands I will purchase two headbands and make matching wristbands out of the second one.

TIP: For some outfits I have multiple headbands. I wear these outfits on really hot days so I can switch out the headbands when they become wet. I always carry an extra white or black one in my pickleball bag.

Personal Equipment:

TIP: Utilizing practice equipment at home can help you develop a feel for your paddle and how it connects with the ball.

TIP: Pickleball Overgrip Tape improves paddle handling.

TIP: Learn the reasons for replacing your paddle.

Tip: If the shoe you find works best for you comes in white I suggest that color as it will match any color pickleball outfit. Label or identify your shoes if yours is a common model.

Tip: Make sure you pull up the heel, drive your heels back into the shoe and pull up the tongue before tying. I keep the box part of the laces the same and only tighten/loosen the top of the shoe – alternating sides as a tighten to get a good secure shoe.

TIP: As your play improves it does make a difference to play with better balls, especially if you play at a facility that uses a specific type of ball. Some people also like to bring their own balls. This way you know the ball isn’t broken or so well used that it doesn’t bounce properly.

TIP: If you bring your own balls label your balls with a permanent marker – use your initial or a symbol just for you.

TIP: I recommend that you label your bag and put a tag with your name and contact information so that if someone finds your bag they can contact you. Also a good idea to have a picture of it. If you do forget it somewhere perhaps you can post a picture on the group.

TIP: I recommend that you label your bottle so at least you can identify it. Also a good idea to have a picture of it. If you do forget it somewhere perhaps you can post a picture on the group.

TIP: I always take two bottles with me. One with water and one with electrolytes. Look for an upcoming post on hydrating while playing pickleball.

TIP: It is important that you have good shoes for any surface you play on. This will help avoid slipping/falling and wear on your body and feet. It is not advisable to wear street shoes on the pickleball court. Outdoor shoes can bring debris and stones that can damage surfaces and sand can cause surfaces to become slippery.

TIP: When we started playing we used our regular pickleball paddle and the pickleball for our practice sessions. Now that we have more expensive paddles and court balls that are used on professional surfaces we have practice pickleball paddles and pickleballs to avoid contamination.

I am Pickleballher.

I started playing pickleball in December 2023 – with an Intro to pickleball 2 hour program at our local recreation centre. Two years later and I am a die hard player, enjoying the sport at least 3 times per week. I live, breathe and sleep pickleball. I love watching the pros, becoming well versed in the rules, following youtube for tips and creating complete pickleball outfits. I also love sharing tips, hints and recommendations to help others, specially women, enjoy the sport of pickleball. Follow me on my socials to learn more. For a full intro on my journey – check out the first blog – About Pickleballher.
