Long Hair – Part 1 – Accessories

Playing pickleball with long hair seems to be the preferred way for the pros but it can be a challenge – the challenge is to keep hair together and out of the way in an easy and comfortable fashion. Hair accessories have become another part of my pickleball outfits with color matching.

Long hair requires specialized care compared to short hair. In Part 2 of my series of posts on Long Hair I talk about how to care for Long Hair. Special tips and products are how to keep long hair full and healthy.

Long hair can also trap heat if not contained properly and can get in the way of play. Certain hair styles are better than others while also keeping you cooler – I will talk about that in Part 3.

Prior to starting pickleball, I kept my hair pretty short for convenience. When I first started playing pickleball I had just started growing my hair long again and went back to pony tails. The more pickleball I played and watched the pros play, the longer I grew my hair. Noticing that all most all pro women have long hair, I did some research and found that long hair was easier to look after for pickleball play. I could put my long hair up and out of the way as as my play improved.

Other accessories that will come into play with your hair include your Headbands and Visors – I will delve into how to use these items the best way for your hair when playing indoors and outdoors under the post – Long Hair – Part 3 – Tips for Styling Long Hair when Playing Pickleball. The accessories are the same but the style differs depending on conditions.

Now that my hair is long – there are a number of accessories I use. Styling long hair for pickleball play means keeping hair out of the way. If the ball touches your hair it is a fault.
