Life Before Pickleball
Prior to starting to play pickleball my husband and I had a very busy life. Since 2000 I ran an international company that supplied commercial children’s products and helped companies become child friendly. It was called “Hotel Fun 4 Kids” and I developed it initially to help hotels and resorts become more kid friendly. Over 20 years it became so much more than I could have ever imagined with clients all over the world, over 30 manufacturers providing products to businesses, government, schools, hospitals and the hospitality industry.

In addition to this business, we had a horse farm with our sons and a related business distributing an equine related product throughout Canada and the US.

Covid turned our world upside down. Virtually every industry that was related to Hotel Fun 4 Kids was affected and faced extreme hardships. However the equine business took off and more than made up for it. With politics the way they were and the changes Covid brought about, it became clear that the business world would never be the same. My husband and I then decided to sell our horse farm, wind down both businesses and downsize.
Nearing the end of 2021 the farm was sold, the distributorship had ended and Hotel Fun 4 Kids was winding down.
Relocating and retiring my one remaining horse (my baby) to a local stable and setting up a new house after 38 years on the farm was a daunting task.
Adjusting to the City for all of us including our Great Dane and making some changes to the new house took just over a year.

In December 2022 our local recreation centre offered a Learn to Play Pickleball two hour course that my husband and I tried but an upcoming wedding for our youngest son waylaid any plans to pursue the sport.
At the end of 2023, we gave it another shot. A second Learn to Play – to read more go to our Introduction to Pickleball
