The Pickleball Net
Since the net is the most prominent feature of the Pickleball Court it really deserves a post of it’s own. Whether the net is permanent or temporary, the basic features are the same.

The Pickleball Net divides the court in half and is placed in between the kitchens or non-volley zone on each side. The official width of the net is 22 feet – 2 feet wider than the Pickleball Court so that one foot extends on each side. It is 36 inches high at the posts and 34 inches at the centre. The middle may be supported by a post. A 2 inch tape forms the top of the net.
Professionally installed permanent nets have posts that have been embedded into the surface structure with winches for tension and strong nets that can withstand heavy use and weather conditions if they are outside. Play on courts that feature these nets are usually on an acrylic surface and it makes for engaging ball bounces. The facilities we are playing at now have these types of nets and reacting to balls that bounce off the net require quick reflexes.
Temporary nets allow any surface to become a pickleball court. Once lines are placed on the surface, the net can easily be placed on the pickleball court.
Temporary nets come in two types – lightweight portable nets – some that even come with carrying case and heavier wheeled systems that can be rolled out of the way.
